Mary K. Buck

Mary K. Buck, 78, of Hawesville, passed from a peaceful sleep on August 24, 2016 at Heartford House to be with her Lord in Heaven.

Mary was the daughter of the late Darwin and Esther Kreisle. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill; daughter, Karen (Richard) Basham of Hawesville and son, Kris (Jennifer) Buck of Atoka, TN. Grandchildren include Ethan, Edward and Ben Basham and Zach, Lily and Theo Buck. She is also survived by her sisters Barby Kreisle of Highland, IL and Sandra (Alex) Murphy of Bonita Springs, FL. Other family survivors are Collen Buck, Donna (John) Fullenwider, Dan (Mary) Buck, Eva (Bob) Bulleit, Jerry (Mary) Buck, John (Mary) Buck, Tom (Teresa) Buck and Lila (V.A.) Proctor along with several nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family members preceding her in death include her brothers, George, Donald, Karl, Charles, Darwin Joseph and sister Evelyn Kreisle DeLong.

Mary was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a B.A., M.A. and Educational Leadership degrees. She retired from Hancock County Schools after teaching English and serving as Hancock County High School Guidance Counselor for 29 years. Post retirement work includes teaching English and serving as Extended Campus Coordinator at Owensboro Community and Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College and Brescia University.

Mary was a devout Christian who loved the Lord Jesus Christ, a member of Hawesville Baptist Church where she served as church clerk, treasurer and Children’s Department Director. She believed in missions and took several trips to Russia, Brazil, the Netherlands and Tanzania, Africa.

Local volunteer efforts include the Hancock County Help Office, Hancock County Public Library, Hancock County Retired Teachers, Hancock County Museum, Relay for Life and Western Kentucky Hospice.

Mary’s family wishes to thank those who visited, sent cards and brought food during her illness. A special thanks to the staffs and Drs. Angela Jarvis, J. Maheshwari and Western Kentucky Hospice for their compassionate care.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Hawesville Baptist Church’s Family Life Center with burial following in Serenity Hills. Mary’s family will be greeting friends from 4 pm until 8 pm Friday and from 10 am until 10:30 am Saturday at the Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hawesville Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
