Virginia H. Wheet, 88, of Hawesville, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Hawesville on January 3, 1937 to the late William and Ethel Stone Alsip. Virginia was retired from Hawesville Elementary School and was a longtime member of Hawesville United Methodist Church. She was very involved in church life and functions, Sunday School Teacher for 45 years, Board of Trustees, Pastor Parrish Relations Committee, Congregational Care, Food Worship Ministry, Wednesday night childrens church and was head of the kitchen. Virginia loved spending time with her family, working puzzles and tending her plants.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Wheet; son Samuel Lee Wheet; siblings, Ruby Tucker, Patsy Laslie and Jimmy Alsip.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Larry) Pate; son, Eddie (Donna) Wheet; grandchildren, Chris Pate, Chanda Poole, Brandon Wheet and Melissa Cox; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Gladys Koller, Brenda Crabtree, Tommy Alsip and David Alsip along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Hawesville United Methodist Church with burial following in Serenity Hills. Virginia’s family will be greeting friends on Thursday from 4 pm until 7 pm and on Friday from 9 am until service time at Hawesville United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hawesville United Methodist Church.
