Violet Mae Nichols, 94, went to her Heavenly home on February 4, 2026 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  She was born on April 23, 1931 at home in Hawesville, KY, to the late Vernon and Edna Rearden Nugent.  Violet went to Beechmont High School and graduated from Indianapolis Cosmetology School.  She worked as a beautician for many years in Indianapolis, Tell City and Hawesville.  Violet owned and operated Breeze Inn Café and Cardinal Café for many years as well.

Violet was an active member of Mt. Eden Baptist Church in Hawesville. She loved singing in the choir, taught Sunday School and helped with meals at church.  Violet loved the Lord and read her bible daily in the morning while having breakfast.  She loved going to church, working in the garden and her flowers and cooking for family and friends and celebrating her family’s birthdays.

Violet was married to Marvin E. Nichols, who passed in 1998, also preceding her in death were 5 siblings, Elvin Nugent, Leroy Nugent, Edward Nugent, Lillian Jacobs and Lavetta Jackson; grandson, Jonathan Salcedo.

Violet is survived by her sons, Jerry (Stephanie) Nichols, Tim Nichols, Rick (Kay) Nichols and Brian Nichols; step son, Billy (Diane) Nichols; grandchildren, Krista, Jarod, Kyle, Logan, Mandy, Tina and Annette; several great grandchildren; sister, Doris Pritchard along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Mt Eden Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm on Monday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville Chapel and on Tuesday from 10 am until 1 pm at Mt. Eden Baptist Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Eden Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
