Shirley Ann Kurz Hagman was born on October 18, 1933 at home in Owensboro, KY to Augustus Frederick Kurz and Goldie Cecilia Whelan Kurz and was baptized in the kitchen sink. Shirley graduated from Owensboro Catholic High in 1952 and Owensboro Business College. She worked at General Electric in Owensboro and later at Hancock County Soil Conservation office and Immaculate Conception Church in Hawesville.
She married Daniel John Hagman on August 13, 1960, at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro, KY and they celebrated their 65th anniversary this year.
Shirley was well known for her "Pepsodent" smile, twinkling eyes and ready laugh. She loved being in the Hancock County Homemakers, Immaculate Conception Altar Society and various book clubs.
Shirley died at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, IN, on November 18, 2025, where and watched over by caring staff and Heart to Heart Hospice, at the age of 92.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Dan, and her children Elizabeth Hagman, Harold (Sherry) Hagman, Rachael Hagman and Janice Sexton Hagman (widow to son John Hagman). Also grieving Shirley are her grandchildren, Aaron (Lacey) Hagman, Derrick Hagman, Lindsey Hagman, Nicholas Hagman, Jaclyn Hagman Bryant (Michael), Jacob Moody (Lauren), Nathan Gily, Ben Gily and Ian Hagman plus 3 wonderful great-grandchildren, Asher Bryant, Jax Moody, and Clara Lynn Hagman-Bryant. She will be sorely missed by her surviving sisters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Kamuf, Rose (Joseph) Rousoff, Mary Julia Kurz, sister-in-law Mary Ann Kurz and over 80 nieces and nephews of Hagmans and Kurzs.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Janet Kurz Fullerton, and her five brothers James Kurz, Joseph Kurz, John Kurz, Frank Kurz and Thomas Kurz. Her son John David Hagman died in April 2022.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hawesville with Father Larry Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Shirley’s family will be greeting friends on Friday from 3 pm until 7 pm and on Saturday from 9 am until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in the form of Mass offerings in Shirley's memory.
