Shirlene (Swihart) Quinn Obituary

Shirlene Swihart Quinn was born August 16, 1938, in Hancock County to the late Lucile (Mommy Mommy) and Hazel Swihart.


Shirlene married Daniel Clay Quinn in 1955. She and Clay were tobacco and cattle farmers and owned Highlander Center Laundromat and Apartments along with the downtown car wash in Hawesville for many years.


Shirlene was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a lifetime associate of the Ursuline community, receiving the Sopia award for service in 2010.


For years Shirlene shared her Indian Lake cabin with family and friends, making taco salads and enjoying playing cards there many times.


Shirlene was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Clay Quinn of 60 years in 2017, her sister Mev May Tucker and her precious granddaughter Bethany Payne in 2016.


Survivors include her daughter, Dana Ceil (Ronnie) Payne of Hawesville, son Daniel Clay Quinn, Jr. (Linda Wimmer) of Hawesville, grandson Blake Payne of Hawesville, grandson Daniel Clay Quinn III of Utah, granddaughter Caitlin Quinn (Michael Price) of Louisiana, niece Cindy Link of Louisville, nephews Greg Franzman of Owensboro and Mark Franzman of Florida. Shirlene also wanted to make note of remembering her many lifetime friends who were very special to her.


A Funeral Mass celebrating Shirlene’s life at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Church located at 115 Main Street in Hawesville, Kentucky.  Shirlene’s family will be greeting friends at the church from 8:00 am until service time.  Burial following in Mount Calvary Cemetery. 


Shirlene will be remembered by her strong will, her work ethic, taking care of friends and her love of Hawesville. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched with kindness and grace.  May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
