Shelby K. Rice

Shelby K. Rice, Sr., 80, of Hawesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at the Heartford House with his family by his side.  Shelby was born in Hancock County on April 5, 1939 to the late Kenneth C. and Thelma Newman Rice.  He was a member of Mt Eden Baptist Church, retired from N S A.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and a charter member of the Garden Club.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Regina Crowe Rice; a daughter Leda R. (Steve) McBride; a son Shelby K. (Lisa) Rice, Jr; four grandchildren Dacquri (Dusty) Smeathers, Damian (Annie) Rice, DaKendra Rice and Nicholas (Stephanie) McBride; five Great Grandchildren Lane, Kolt, and Izek Smeathers and Macie and Maggie McBride; three sisters Shirley Raikes, Shelia (Joe) Dixon and Stephanie (Van) Anthony; a brother Steve (Lisa) Rice and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11:00 am Saturday July 6, 2019 at Mt Eden Baptist Church with burial following in Serenity Hills.  Shelby’s family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville and from 9:00 am until service time Saturday at Mt Eden Baptist Church.
