Ruby Lee Snyder Driskell, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Hawesville on December 5, 2025, surrounded by her three daughters and Pastor Larry Sosh, who spoke a heartfelt prayer for her as she made her journey to Heaven. A dedicated homemaker in her children’s early years, Ruby worked various jobs until her retirement. She was born in Hawesville on November 27, 1936, to the late Oliver and Elizabeth Riley Snyder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, George Wyble, who passed in 2016, her first husband George Thomas Driskell, her brothers Arthur, Oscar, Ivory, and Thomas Snyder, and her sisters Violet Snyder Brandle, Eula Snyder, and Celia Ann Snyder Totten; and her sons, Thomas Alan Driskell and Robert Oliver Driskell. She also mourned the loss of her grandsons, John Russell Poole, Patrick Thomas McFall, Charles Thomas McFall and Charles Paul McFall; great-great granddaughter, Mary Lee Paris
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Mary Katherine Driskell Burst, Debra Ann Driskell Sturgeon, and Elizabeth Louise Driskell Williamson. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to 19, with three (soon to be four) great-great-grandchildren.
An old soul at heart, Ruby often joked she was born a hundred years too late. She cherished spending time with family, being outdoors, working with her hands, cooking, sewing, traveling, feeding her beloved birds, and listening to old country music. Known for her warm heart, she never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went. Her legacy of love, kindness, and a zest for life will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville Chapel with burial to follow in Memory Gardens. Ruby’s family will be greeting friends on Tuesday from 3 pm until 6 pm and on Wednesday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home.
