James Ray Adkins, 88, of Lewisport, KY, passed away on December 13, 2025 at Heartland Villa.  He was born on July 11, 1937 in Hancock County to the late Bluford and Josie Scifres Adkins.  Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force, worked at American Olean Tile for 17 years and then worked many years for Tri Star Construction.  He retired in 1999 at the age of 62.  Ray enjoyed UK basketball, farming, gardening (Hoping to raise tomatoes to sell), mowing grass, tinkering in his shop, visiting neighbors, taking his grandkids on 4-wheeler rides and spending time with his family. 

Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ella Adkins; son, Mark Adkins; granddaughter, April Adkins; great grandson, Rowan Adkins; siblings, Sammy Adkins, Marlene McCaslin, Mary Jo Estes, Effie Powers, Martha Husk, Dolores Boling and three infant sisters.

Ray is survived by his children, Neal Adkins, William “Bill” Adkins, Aimee (Richard) Frank and Kathy (Mark Estes) Adkins; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Lewisport Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel from 10 am until 1:30 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
