Harry Dean Roberts III

Harry “Butch” Dean Roberts III, 77, of Hancock County, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. Born on September 2, 1948, he was preceded in death by his father, Harry Jr.; his mother, Betty; and his brother, Dennis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his brother Johnny (Sherry); his sister Rosemary; his sons Sean (Cindy) and Craig (Madeline); his grandchildren Caitlyn, Nichole, Hayden, Alexis, David, and Matthew; and a great-grandson, Raiden. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Johnny “Chic,” Mike, Scarlett, Jarred, and Jonathan “Boop,” each of whom held a special place in his heart.

A lifelong resident of Hancock County, Harry grew up just outside Lewisport and spent nearly three decades teaching social studies and geography. Many who passed through his classroom remember him not only as a gifted teacher but as a gentle, steady presence, passionate about the history he loved, especially the Civil War. He shaped generations of students with his kindness, knowledge, and unwavering respect for others.

Harry’s life was rooted in the land and the people around him. He adored the outdoors and made daily visits to the family farm. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and exploring with family and friends. He enjoyed trips to Land Between the Lakes and Wisconsin, and family vacations to Canada, Gettysburg, and Gatlinburg. He especially treasured the moments spent teaching his children and grandchildren how to shoot and fish.

In his community, Harry was known as a kind neighbor and a dependable friend. He volunteered each year at the local Lenten fish fries. He was someone people trusted, respected, and enjoyed being around. He was an avid UK basketball fan.

Above all, Harry loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His gentle strength, his quiet humor, and his steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Funeral Service’s will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Columba Catholic Church with private burial to follow in Roberts Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 pm until 7 pm and 9 am until service time Saturday at the church.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky or for Masses in memory of Harry Dean.
