David Voyles Obituary

David Griffin Voyles, 80, of Hawesville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Ascension Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Born and raised in Hawesville, David spent most of his life rooted in the community he called home. He retired from Yager Materials, where he worked as a paving operator. He was known for his strong work ethic, his quick wit, and his ability to make people laugh with a joke or playful teasing just to get a rise out of them.

David found joy in the simple things—stock car racing, fishing, and spending time with those he loved. More than anything, however, he cherished his family. He often reminded those around him that "family is everything," a sentiment he lived by throughout his life. It was fitting that, in his final moments, he was surrounded by his loved ones, just as he would have wanted.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Griffin Voyles and Kate "Katie" Craft Voyles; his wife, Joy Kay (Gray) Voyles; his significant other, Naomi Canton; his brothers, Carlton R. Voyles and James Roger Voyles; and his sister, Betty Jean Voyles.

David is survived by his children, Laura Ellsworth; David R. Voyles and his wife, Felecia; Judy Scherer and her husband, Todd; Jamie Cassidy; and his stepson, Terry Morris Jr. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, his brother, Charles Voyles and his wife, Mahala, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

David's legacy is not measured by possessions, but by the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the importance he placed on family. The greatest tribute to David is to keep telling his stories, laughing at the jokes he loved to tell, and remembering his favorite reminder: "Family is everything." As long as those stories are shared and those memories are passed from one generation to the next, a part of him will always be with us.

Services are at 1:00 pm Saturday August 1, 2026 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville Chapel with burial following in Memory Gardens.  David’s family will be greeting friends from 11:00 am until service time.  Online condolences may be left for David family at www.gibsonandsonfh@att.net.
