Catherine “Kathy” Cessna Taylor, age 76, entered heaven on February 3, 2026, at Heartland Villa in Lewisport, Kentucky. She was born on December 15, 1949, to the late Harvey Lee Cessna and Georgia Kiser Cessna. She was preceded in death by her son, Dave; her husband, Will; and her brother, Tony.
Kathy’s life began with hardship when her mother died while she was still a baby. She was lovingly raised with the help of family and friends. Her brothers, Tony and Lee—who both protected and teased her—remained close throughout her life.
She was married to William David Taylor for 56 years, a marriage marked by deep love, devotion, and commitment.
Kathy’s greatest loves were God and her family and friends, followed closely by her love for the St. Louis Cardinals and her fondness for purses and jewelry. She appreciated beautiful things, but she always valued people more than possessions.
Kathy loved being with people and made friends everywhere she went. She had a contagious laugh and was often giggling. Honest and loyal, she was a true friend. She loved talking about her family—first her children, Georgia and Dave, and later her grandchildren, Mitchell and Julia. Anyone who spent time with her was sure to see photos or hear a story. Though she once resisted becoming a dog owner, she grew deeply attached to her beloved dog, Buddy.
Kathy was known for her delicious food, especially her homemade rolls, dumplings, and pies. She made sweet tea every day. She had a bubbly, warm personality, and even after dementia stole parts of her memory, Kathy remained funny, sassy, and sweet. Her love endured.
A dedicated member of Lewisport Baptist Church, Kathy faithfully served for many years as church secretary and attended whenever the doors were open. She sang in the choir and ladies’ ensemble and was committed to raising her children in faith. Her life reflected her beliefs. She also worked for many years in admissions at Owensboro Hospital, where she found joy in helping people during times of need.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Scott) Smith; grandchildren, Mitchell and Julia Smith; brother, Lee (Carolyn) Cessna; brother-in-law, Dan Taylor; several cousins; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, at Lewisport Baptist Church, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. A private burial will take place in Lewisport Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Gibson & Son Funeral Home. Share your memories and condolences with her family at www.gibsonandsonfh.com.
