Victor Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Victor A. Johnson, Sr. 87, passed away on September 29, 2018 at the Heartford House surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Hancock County on November 11, 1930, to George Albin and Emma Hagman Johnson.  He was a graduate of St Bernard High School in Cullman, AL.  After graduation he returned home to work on the family farm.  Farming the land and raising livestock were his passion.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951, during the Korean War and served until December 2, 1959.  Once again he returned to his love of farming. 

Victor loved his family, church, land, and community.  He served on several farm related boards and was president of the Hancock County Farm Bureau for many years.  He was an active member of St Lawrence Catholic Church serving on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, Picnic Chairman for several years and the School Boards of both Mary Carrico and Trinity High Schools.

After retirement he enjoyed riding around the community looking at crops and visiting fellow farmers and friends.  He had a special love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his dog, wild flowers, the ocean and mountains. 

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, brother, two baby sisters, a son Philip N. Johnson, and a grandson, Philip R. Quinn. 

Survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Brasher Johnson, a sister, Sister Eula Johnson, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth; children:  Noel (Monty) Quinn, Albin “AJ” Johnson,  Chris (Patsy) Johnson, Tony (Kay) Johnson all of Hawesville, KY.   Rita (Chuck) Hardesty, Anne (Chuck) Hagan of Whitesville, KY.  Nancy (Jerome) Doyle of Franklin, KY.  Grandchildren: Joseph (Nicole) Quinn, Jane Quinn, Trey, Tori, Keaton, and Brittney Johnson,  Beth (Bryan) French, Todd, Ben, Will, and Nate Johnson, Daniel, Zachary, and Mary Hardesty, Coty (Lora) Johnson, Kayla (Jon) Veach, Ryan (Nicole) Johnson, Whitney (Eric) Lossie, Jessy (Ethan) Bennett, Jordan (Matt) Pogue, Emma (Tyler) Grant, Ethan (Kelly) Hagan, Courtney Hagan, Kate (Adrian) Cruz, Philip and Rebecca Doyle and 22 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on October 2, 2018 St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Augusty Valomchalil and Father Josh McCarty.  Interment is in St. Lawrence Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 8 pm Monday with prayer service at 6 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville and from 10 am until 1:45 pm on Tuesday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heartford House, Parkinson’s Foundation, or St Lawrence Cemetery Fund.
