Shyrlon Horsley Payne, 87,of Lewisport, died Oct. 17, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 3, 1930, in Locust Hill in Breckenridge County, KY, the daughter of Thurman and Judith Butler Horsley. She was retired as a teacher and librarian from Hancock Co. Schools in 1987 where she served on various school-related committees, including the State Library Board. She graduated from Breckenridge Co. High School in 1948, received her BS from Kentucky Wesleyan College and her MA from Western Kentucky University.

She was an active member of the Lewisport United Methodist Church, a volunteer in the community and schools, the county Food Pantry and Thrift Store, and the Hancock Co Museum, to name a few. She enjoyed raising her family and reading to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shyrlon is survived by her husband of 67 (almost 68) years, Edgar R. Payne, four children Mike (Martha) of Lewisport, Pat (Cindy) of Lewisport, Lynn Dauby (Gary) of Rocky Point, Mark (Gaynel) of Hawesville. Grandchildren include: Karma Newland, Lance Dauby, Lemie Ogle, Aaron Payne, Carrie Dixon, Rachel Payne, Cassidy Dauby, Adrian Crocker, Boyce Dauby, Alexandra Kramer, Audra Bolen, Ashtyn Payne, plus 17 great-grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Boyce Gene Horsley of Fort Myers, FL and Donna Horsley Stillwell of Radcliff, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 11: am Friday at Lewisport United Methodist Church with visitation beginning 9:00 am at the church and on Thursday, 3:00- 8:00 pm at Gibson and Son Funeral Home, Lewisport. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky and the Lewisport United Methodist Church.
