Paul Clayton Swihart, 74, of Lewisport, went to glory on December 22 at Heartland Villa with his family by his side. Paul was born on July 26, 1944 to the late Alton and Helen (Sterett) Swihart in Tell City, IN. He graduated from Hancock County High School in 1964 and soon began working on the Cannelton Locks and Dam after graduation. Paul married Charlene Hawley Swihart in September 1967. He was a member of the Operating Engineers 181 and worked many years as a crane operator for his uncle, Bill Sterett. Paul retired in 2000 from Commonwealth Aluminum where he worked as an electrician and instrument technician.
Paul enjoyed spending time in his work shop and having friends stop by and talk. He was an avid collector of just about anything and enjoyed taking sailing trips to KY Lake. With everything he loved to do, he considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment. He loved them unconditionally. Paul was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Swihart Mersch, his brothers Russell and Dennis Swihart, and two sisters-in-law Patricia Meyers and Allie Dean Oliver.
Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years – Charlene Hawley Swihart, daughter Amy Diane Hess (Matt), son Christopher Paul (Kristy), son-in-law Chris Mersch, nine grandchildren Denon, Lacie, Cade, Tatum, Hayduke, Jude, Caden, Carter and Kenadi, sister Judy Hamilton (Dan), brother Richard Swihart, sister-in-law Helen (Brooks) Young, brother-in-laws Billy (Tina) Hawley and Larry Oliver, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, December 26th at Gibson and Son Funeral Home in Lewisport. Visitation will be held from 10 am – 3pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to Lewisport Baptist Church Renovation Fund.
