David W. Roberts, 74, of Hawesville, passed away at his residence on Thursday, January 4, 2018.  He was born on March 24, 1943 to the late DW and Lucille Ellis Roberts in Greenville, KY.  He was married to Judith (Judy) Brown on September 7, 1963.  David graduated from Owensboro High School in 1961 and attended Murray State University.

David served in the United States Army and retired as Vice President of the loan department of Old National Bank in 2008 after 30 years.  He was a member of Kiwanis Club and the American Legion.  David also served as Scout Master in the Boy Scouts, was on the Board of Directors of Camp Friendship through Lion’s Club International of Tell City and hosted many foreign exchange students through this program.  He was an active member of Hawesville United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing chess, hunting, fishing, golf, watching UK basketball games (GO CATS!), working in the yard and most especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents DW and Lucille and a son, Mark Claybron Roberts.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy; a son; Michael (Jill); 4 grandchildren, Tyler (Andrea), Devin (Montana), Kynslee and Nate; 7 great grandchildren, Caleb, Emily, Caydin, Issac, Quinn, Athena and Kellan; a brother, Phil Roberts; 2 sisters, Betty Boling and Martha Glass alone with several nieces and nephews

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hawesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Thom Brown officiating.  Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with full military honors.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville and on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at Hawesville United Methodst Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hawesville United Methodist Church.
