Blanche Batie DeJarnette Obituary

Blanche Marie Batie DeJarnette, 87, of Lutz, Florida, died on June 7, 2018.  She was surrounded by family.

Blanche was the 4th of 8 children to the late Edward Batie and Margie Williams Batie of Tell City, Indiana.  Born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 4, 1931, she grew up in Clarksville, Tennessee.  Blanche was married to the late Allen E. DeJarnette for over 64 years.  She was employed at General Electric, and Pinkerton Tobacco Company.  She was Vice President of the union while working at Pinkerton.  Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 64 years, Allen E. DeJarnette, brothers Ray, Calvin, Ben, and Alfred Batie, sisters Berniece Miller and Mary Jo Rice, and grandson Aundre Justin Riquelme.

Blanche moved to Florida five years ago into the home and family of her granddaughter Sarah Schlemmer, husband Dustin, and children Noah and Emmarie.  She was happy to be part of their family until her death.

Blanche is survived by her children Edward A. DeJarnette (Debra) of Athens, Tennessee, Sue DeJarnette (Rimas Taruski) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Deborah J. Riquelme (Roger) of Miami, Florida, Mark DeJarnette (Lori) of Hawesville, Kentucky, Kimber L. Paetzold (John) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Denise M. DeJarnette of St. Petersburg, Florida.  She is also survived by her beloved sister, Jan Fry of Michigan.

Grandchildren include Melissa L. Arensman, Ben DeJarnette, Sarah Schlemmer, Rachel Obando, Andrew Riquelme, Ted Riquelme, Karen Parks, Kurt Stumpf, Zachary DeJarnette, Morgan DeJarnette, Erin Fulkerson, Leah Boris and Mark Peck.  She is also survived by 27 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Eden Baptist Church, with interment following next to her husband in the church cemetery.  Viewing will be held at Gibson and Son Funeral Home, Hawesville, on Friday, June 15 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday June 16 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
