Bessie Jean Cahal, 85, of Lewisport, died August 8, 2018 at Deaconess Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Cloverport on March 24, 1933 to the late James Owen and Virginia Cummings Meador. Jean was a member of Lewisport Baptist Church and a housewife. She enjoyed “digging in the dirt” as she would say. She loved planting seed and watching it grow, whether it be in her yard or in the lives of people she knew or met. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Shirley D. Cahal and her brother Donald X. Meador.
Survivors include her children, Brent (Hughlene) Cahal and Lisa (Steve) Rice; 4 grandchildren, Jenny (Jeff) Shultz, Zach (Heather) Rice, Vanessa Burcham and Mindy (Ben) Brown; 8 great grandchildren, Jacob and Emily Jean Shultz, Macey and Nolan Rice, Landon Burcham and Abigail, Makenna and Hadlee Brown; a brother, Gary (Sherry) Meador; sister in laws, Del Cahal and Tula Meador along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Lewisport Baptist Church with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 pm until 8 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport and from 9 am until service time at Lewisport Baptist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Lewisport Baptist Church Building Fund, Mt. Eden Baptist Church Building Fund or the Gideon’s.
