Robert David “Bobby” Hawkins, 72, of Lewisport, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 in his home with family. He was born in Daviess County on October 27, 1945 to the late Layman Sr. and Mary Daisy Hawkins.
Bobby was a devoted and loving husband, father, granddaddy, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed time at home with his family, taking care of his farm, mowing, bass fishing, celebrating the holidays, and working in his barn. Bobby was a devoted and active member of Lewisport United Methodist Church where he had served with his wife, Dawn, as Youth Director and taught Sunday School. He served 8 years on the Hancock County Board of Education and was also President of Lewisport PTO. Bobby also entertained the public with his involvement in the Hancock Community Players. He was a skilled mechanic and retired from NSA after 38 years in maintenance. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS Duluth. Bobby also enjoyed his 2PM coffee group as they assembled regularly to solve world problems.
Bobby is survived by his wife Dawn Grant after 48 years of marriage; his children, David, and Julie Lake (Allen); his beloved grandchildren, Katie, Zach, Anna, Logan, Josie and Jace; his brothers, James “Jimmy” (Sue), Harvey Allen, Layman L. Hawkins, Jr. “Sonny” (Mary Margaret), and Joseph “Jody” (Susan); Sharon Oliver Hawkins, sister-in-law; and Nicole Hawkins Luechtefeld, daughter-in-law. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are Sunday, December 17. Visitation will be at the Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Lewisport from 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM. A memorial service will follow at the Lewisport United Methodist Church at 2:00PM. It was his wish to be cremated.
