Lula Grace Young

June 19, 1926 ~ March 17, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Lula Grace Young, 90, of Hawesville passed away on Friday March 17, 2017 at Oakwood Health Campus, Tell City.  She was born on June 19, 1926 in Waitman, KY, the daughter of the late Hal and Myrtle Board Young.  Lula was a member of the Hawesville Baptist Church where as a young woman she taught Children’s Sunday School and later in life was a faithful secretary/treasurer of the JOY Sunday School Class.  She worked at General Electric in Tell City for 44 years, served on the City Council for Hawesville, various GRADD boards, Hawesville Homemakers for 49 years and was a member of the Hancock County Museum Board of Directors.

She loved to travel, traveling to Australia, Hawaii and many other interesting places.  Lula loved her Kentucky Wildcats and on game day, you would find her dressed in Wildcat blue.  Her real passion was her family.  She loved her siblings and her nieces and nephews and their extended family.  Lula was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Melvin, Emerson, Thurman, Leroy and Herbert; a sister, Edna Snyder Gabbert; nephews, Charles Young, Richard Young, Earl Preston Snyder and Larry Snyder; nieces, Melva Jean Birkhead, Brenda Young and Mary Elizabeth Lowery.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Edith Newton and husband Carlos and their children: her faithful caregiver, Sherry Roberts (Johnny), Shelia Dixon (John), Michael Bozarth (Danita) and Mary Elizabeth Meyers (Bob); sister in law, Patsy Robbins Young, Herbert’s son, Robin D. Young (Helen); Melvin’s children, Brooks Young (Helen), Leola Gribbs, Bertha Bozarth, Nell Napier, Verna Wood and Melvin Young, Jr. (Leona), Alan Young (Carloyn), Glenn Young (Karen); Emerson’s son, Harold Young (Millie); Thurman’s daughter, Gail Golden (Henry); Edna’s sons, Hal Ray Snyder (JoAnne) and Glen Gabbert (Cindy) along with many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Hawesville Baptist church with Bro. Barry Fields officiating.  Burial will follow in Serenity Hills.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 pm until 8 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville and on Monday from 10 am until service time at the church.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hawesville Baptist Church Building Fund.
