John W. (Jay) Craig, 92, of Hawesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday September 25, 2016 at the Heartford House.  He was born on November 6, 1923 in Roseville, KY to the late Hobart and Jennie Newton Craig.  Jay was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church. He was a retired school bus driver for the Hancock County School System; he also worked as a guard for Guardsmark and was a carpenter.  Jay was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving our country during World War II.  He enjoyed going out to eat, watching ball games and working on things.  He was preceded in death by a daughter Shannon Leslie, a granddaughter Shonda Cuppy and a sister Mary Boling.

Survivors include his companion Gloria White; a daughter Lana (David) Akin; a son Steve Craig; 4 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother Ray (Janet) Craig and his extended family Sherry (Harold) Hagman, Stacy (Darin) Brown and Matt White along their children.

Services are at 11:00 am Wednesday September 28, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville.  Burial will be in Blackford Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors.  J. W.’s family will greet guests from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 7:00 am until service time Wednesday at the Funeral Home.  The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
