Fred A. Goodwin, 64, of Lewisport passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Owensboro, KY on March 15, 1953 the son of Eugene and Edna Morris Goodwin. Fred graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1987, a Master’s in Divinity from Emory University in 1989, and Master’s in Social Work from the University of Louisville in 1996. Fred was a deacon in the United Methodist Church, and pastored several rural churches in Kentucky and Georgia since 1983. He also served on United Methodist conference boards and district committees. Fred also served his community on various boards and committees of non-profit agencies.
Fred retired as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Therapist from River Valley Behavioral Health in 2016 and earned his Associate Certified Coach status with the International Coach Federation.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jan; brother Gene (Ann) Goodwin of Owensboro and sister, Cindy (Bruce) Atkinson of Lewisport; four children, Eddie (Donna) of Owensboro, Melissa (Gary) Maholm of Evansville, IN, Carla (Steve) Easley of Owensboro, and Keith of Bloomington, IN; nine grandchildren, Krystin Waldron, Connor, Anne, Jonathan, Andrew and Claire Goodwin, Katie and Karis Easley, all of Owensboro and Samuel Maholm of Evansville, IN; and one great-grandaughter, Emory Waldron of Owensboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday August 31, 2017 at Lewisport United Methodist Church with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery. Fred’s family will be greeting friends from 4 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday and from 9 am until 10:30 am on Thursday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport. In lieu of flowers and other gifts, the family requests donations to a non-profit agency or to a United Methodist institution.
