Welcome to the memorial page for

Elizabeth Rearden Stephens

November 7, 2016

Elizabeth Rearden Stephens, 82 years young, is now eternally in the arms of her beloved Kirtley, who passed away April 9, 2011.   Her last breath was on November 7th at 7 pm, surrounded by her family.

She grew up in the Blackford bottoms, born to the late Hubert and Floella Voyles Rearden. She had five siblings: HC Rearden/Shirley (deceased); Audrey Swihart/AC (deceased); Russell Rearden/Bonita; Nina Wettstain; and Carl Rearden/Pat.   Memories of her childhood often included the crops they raised, the hard work of living on the farm; but, the most special memories were of growing up with such a loving family.  While in the 8th grade of school, love took place, and she met Kirtley.  After their courtship, they later married and lived in Owensboro while she worked for GE.

In their move to Pellville, they found home, a place to raise their 4 daughters: Deborah (Roger) Boling; Janice (Tom) Wright; Roxanna (Jerry) Smith; Vanessa (Sam) Huff.  Her life in Pellville included cleaning Pellville Baptist Church, cooking at the Pellville Grade School and Camp Schafer, and serving her Lord through teaching Sunday School and Acteens. Grace and compassion showed through her in these ministries, especially in the love for the children she cooked for (those special yeast rolls). Her biggest passions included sewing and quilting. Teaching herself to sew led to the beautiful hand-made wedding dresses made for each daughter she had.

As time went on, God blessed her with a growing family.   Her eight grandchildren include: Cristy (Mark) Powers; Todd Boling; Terra (James) Roberts; Matt (Carrie) Wright; Aubrey (JB) Harlan; Jacob (Abbie) Smith; Tiffany (Brad) Davis; Zach (Samantha) Huff. Her legacy still continues in the growing number of great-grandchildren:  MaHayla Powers:  Layni & Brooks Roberts; Graysen & Trenten Wright; Keegan & Elizabeth Harlan; Cooper Davis; Kylie and future Carli Huff.   In addition, she had many special nieces, nephews, and in-laws: Perry/Phyllis Stephens; Uldene Stephens (Ray, deceased); Charles/Betty Lyons (both deceased); Kent/Dude/May Stephens (all deceased).

Funeral Services will be held at Pellville Baptist Church at 10am on Friday, November 11th with burial following in Pellville Cemetery.   Family will be receiving visitors from 3pm to 8pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville on Thursday. Visitation on Friday will be at Pellville Baptist Church from 8am to 10am.    Please send expressions of sympathy as donations to Pellville Cemetery.
